Technology basis
During the 1970s, extensive oil and gas discoveries were made in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. Companies and technologies supporting the emerging industry bloomed in this period and ensured a positive economic development of the country. The foremost exponent of this development was the Condeep design and other novel concrete offshore structures for the North Sea. This led to the development of “The Norwegian Concrete Cluster” which represented special competence in:
- Concrete material science
- Concrete structural design
- Slip-forming technology
- Hands-on management of complex slip-forming operations
The CryoTank storage concept is funded on the technological innovations stemming from these early heydays of the Norwegian oil and gas sector. The technology of slip-forming concrete is an especially important component of the CryoTank design.
